58 illegals nabbed in raids on oil palm plantations

SRI AMAN: Fifty-eight undocumented foreigners were taken into custody for allegedly working without valid permits on oil palm plantations across the district.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said the integrated crime prevention operation took place from 10 pm on Friday to 2 am on Saturday.

Acting on public complaints alleging the presence of illegal foreigners in oil palm plantation areas, the team raided three oil palm plantations’ workers’ quarters around the district.

“The raids resulted in the arrest of 47 foreign men and 11 foreign women.

“All of them were escorted to the Sri Aman Immigration Department office for further actions,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The joint operation was led by Sri Aman district police headquarters (IPD), in collaboration with General Operations Force (GOF) 10th Battalion; Sri Aman Immigration Department and Sri Aman National Registration Department (NRD).
