TATAU: Kasihnya Warisan from N58 Balingian has successfully defended its title as “King of the River” at the Tatau Regatta, held in conjunction with the Tatau Festival.
The team showcased their prowess in the traditional boat race on Batang Anap, securing a cash prize of RM20,000 and the championship trophy.
This victory reaffirms the team’s dominance in the sport, following their win at last year’s Tatau Mini Regatta.
Prizes for the winners were presented by Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department and Kakus assemblyman Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai.
The second-place finisher, Kueh Brother 1, received RM5,000 in cash and a trophy, while another boat under N58 Balingian, Kasihnya Warisan, secured third place and earned RM3,000 in cash and a trophy.
Also in attendance to witness the event were Sikie’s wife Datin Melia Gelen; Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi; Pandang Semat, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier; and Tatau District officer Jabang Juntan.
The Tatau Festival, a prominent event in Sarawak’s tourism calendar, is organised annually by the Tatau District Office in collaboration with the Bintulu Development Board, supported by various associations, clubs, and non-governmental organisations.
