Man fined RM2,700 for drug abuse

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court today (Sept 9) imposed a RM2,700 fine or five-month in prison on a local man for using Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.

34-year-old Ricky Nelson Ungking pleaded guilty to the charges, read by a court interpreter in front of Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi.

Ricky was prosecuted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers drug consumption offenses.

The arrest took place at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) of the Padawan Police District around 5 pm on April 16, 2024.

Ricky is also required to undergo two years of police supervision, after the sentence.

The initial urine screening at the Padawan Police District indicated a positive result for the drugs.

A subsequent test conducted by the Pathology Department at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) confirmed the presence of Amphetamine and Methamphetamine in his system.

The case was managed by Prosecuting Officer ASP Arman Ibrahim. Ricky was unrepresented by legal counsel.
