BINTULU: Police have arrested three men, including a local, in connection with an early morning robbery at a convenience store last Friday.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali, in a statement, said that the incident happened at 2.25 am when the store’s lone worker was confronted by the suspects wearing helmets.

One of them had brandished a knife, which led to a struggle that left the victim sustaining injuries to his hand.

He added that the suspects only managed to steal the victim’s phone without taking any cash.

“Acting on information, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) successfully arrested the suspects at 2.30 pm the same day, less than 24 hours after the report was lodged.

“During the arrest, police recovered the stolen phone, a knife, two pairs of jeans, shoes, helmets, as well as clothing believed to be used during the robbery,” he said.

Background checks found that the suspects had 11 prior records for various offences, including substance abuse.
