KUCHING: A proposed trip to Nusantara, the planned new Indonesia’s capital, is underway following a meeting held at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia here yesterday (Sept 14).
The meeting, attended by Indonesia’s Consul-General in Kuching R. Sigit Witjaksono, along with representatives from the media, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Teaching Hospital, and the Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Sarawak, aimed to discuss the proposed trip scheduled to commence in November this year.
“We had two options for the trip, September or November. However, given that September was too soon, we opted for November,” he said.
Media members, committee representatives, and university participants planning to join the trip are awaiting the official date from the consulate, which will be determined soon.
The current target for participants is between 100 and 180, including dignitaries and the Consul-General himself.
He emphasised that this trip is an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and Sarawak.
“The closest and the most immediate neighbour that Indonesia has is Sarawak, but it has to be supported through connectivity.
“Without connectivity it will be a difficult task because the location between these two places is still quite far,” he added.
The initial plan is to depart from Kuching, land in Balikpapan in East Kalimantan Province, and then continue northeast to Nusantara.
