Five made homeless after wee-hour fire engulfs house

KAPIT: A family of five was left homeless after their two-storey house at Rh Nuang, Jalan Bukit Goram, was engulfed in a pre-dawn fire today (Sept 16).

The incident happened around 2.50am and firefighters from Kapit station were dispatched to the scene, about 2km away, to commence extinguishing works.

Upon arrival, they found the house beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.

The flames were brought under control at 4.30am, followed by overhaul works to ensure that there is no risk of reignition.

During the incident, a 40-year-old woman sustained minor burns on her leg while evacuating and was treated by paramedics at the scene. The rest of her family escaped unharmed.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 6am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
