SPAOH: The food basket development project in Spaoh, Betong, is making significant progress, with almost 70 percent of the work completed and expected to be finalised early next year.
Once completed, the site will serve as a collection, processing, and packaging centre (CPPC) for agricultural products, playing a crucial role in advancing local agricultural development.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) to transform Sarawak’s rural areas into economic powerhouses through targeted socio-economic development projects.
Plans are also underway to establish another CPPC in Sungai Baji, Sarikei. The new center aims to empower local farmers, increase agricultural production, and improve food security in the SCORE region.
RECOD chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni said the authority will ensure that the projects benefit rural communities by providing vital infrastructure to support agricultural growth.
He noted that the development of CPPCs will not only stimulate the local economy but also strengthen food security, which is crucial for the region’s prosperity.
RECODA recently inked a series of Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with the Carus Group, Nex Ecoventure, and the Samling Group.
The partnerships aim to optimise production, manage equipment, oversee the supply chain, and improve operational efficiency at the CPPC and the Integrated Highland Agriculture Station (IHAS) in Betong, Sarikei, and Long Banga.
The collaboration also focuses on empowering local farmers through knowledge transfer and promoting sustainability with environmentally friendly farming practices.
Through this effort, RECODA advances Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) by fostering socioeconomic resilience, ensuring sustainable infrastructure development, and prioritising community-driven growth.
The food basket development project in Spaoh, Betong, is also in line with the federal government’s food basket initiative.
