BAU: The Siniawan Mooncake and Lantern Festival has been proposed for inclusion in the tourism calendar to attract more visitors.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said the annual event has successfully drawn interest from a diverse range of visitors.
“The festival is particularly interesting because it is celebrated not only by the Chinese community but also shared with other ethnic groups,” he said during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Siniawan Mooncake and Lantern Festival here, recently.
Miro said the festival continues to serve as a platform for unity among diverse ethnic groups, which showcased the rich cultural diversity of the Serembu area.
“The event is also made vibrant with traditional dishes, particularly various types and flavours of mooncakes,” he said.
Along with local residents, the event also saw the participation of a group of indigenous visitors from Taiwan who explored several areas within the Serembu constituency.
Among those present were Bau District Officer Constantine Gerald David, Bau District Bidayuh Pemanca Robert Tom Juin, and Indigenous People of Taiwan chairman Toko Saiyon.
