SARIKEI: Residents of Sungai Baji were left astonished on Tuesday evening (Sept 17) when a 13-foot-long crocodile emerged from a nearby river.

The sizable reptile was initially sighted by a local villager, who promptly informed the Civil Defence Force (APM) for assistance.

Lt Sahrol Azizi Zaidi, the district officer of Sarikei APM, mentioned that a team was swiftly dispatched to the location following an emergency call at 4.40 pm.

“The individual who reported the incident was taken aback to spot the reptile in an area where he frequently works to make a living.

“Alarmed for the community’s safety, he promptly relayed the sighting to APM,” Sahrol stated in a release.

Upon their arrival, the team found that the crocodile had been shot and killed by villagers.

The team recovered the carcass and transported it back to their headquarters before giving it to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for further action.

Civil defenders secure the crocodile’s carcass before taking it to their office to be handed it over to SFC.
