MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members are urged to prioritise stability and unity to prevent any internal divisions within the party.

PBB vice president Datuk Gerawat Gala pointed out that maintaining party stability was crucial and has long been a cornerstone of PBB’s practice and culture.

“Do not let the quest for positions lead to discord and weaken us. We need to foster good consultation and understanding among party members to prevent any fragmentation.

“PBB’s tradition of valuing unity and stability is key to its strength.

“The seamless transition of leadership from our first president to our current president, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is a testament of our commitment to unity and orderly governance,” he said when officiating the Telang Usan PBB branch meeting last Saturday.

The Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) explained divided parties often result from internal conflicts over positions, where personal interests overshadow the party’s welfare.

Gerawat, who is also Mulu assemblyman, said that PBB’s role as the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and in the Sarawak government is due to the discipline and maturity of its members, who prioritise the party’s stability and interests and not their own interests.

The Telang Usan PBB branch meeting, held at SJK(C) Kee Tee Hall in Long Lama, marked a crucial step in complying with the party’s constitutional requirement for general meetings every three years and preparing for PBB’s 16th General Assembly scheduled for February next year.

The meeting saw the participation of about 500 members from all nine branches in Telang Usan.

It is understood that Telang Usan PBB branch currently has over 7,000 members.

Also present were Telang Usan PBB branch chief and assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau, political secretary to the Premier and Telang Usan PBB branch secretary-general Dominic Nyurang, Women Wing chief Margaret Nawan, Youth Wing chief Eric Andrias and Telang Usan PBB branch deputy chief Charles Balan Seling.
