Cops to dispose of RM2.64 mln worth of drugs seized since 2017

KUCHING: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) here will be disposing of various drugs and poisons worth RM2.64 million, seized between 2017 and 2024.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the disposal will be carried out today in accordance with Sections 406A and 407 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The items will be destroyed using a thermal treatment plant (incinerator) at Trienekens Sarawak Sdn Bhd, located in the Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park.

“The items to be destroyed include ecstasy powder of 23.16kg, syabu (17.13kg), marijuana (12.29kg), ketum leaves (8.5kg), Erimin 5 pills (2.42kg), Nospan pills (1.98kg), ketamine (724.95g, ecstasy pills (132.38g), ketum water (85.7 litres), and urine samples (6,585 bottles).

“The total value of the drugs and poisons amounted to RM2,643,089.76,” he told a press conference this morning.

Mancha added that the disposal process involves 7,478 cases investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Poisons Act 1952.

These cases, which span across 20 districts in Sarawak, have completed investigations and court proceedings.

In light of this, the NCID stressed that they remain committed to go all out against the country’s number one enemy (drugs) and the public is urged to continue to report any information related to drug activities through the department’s hotline at 012-2087222.

Also present was Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Ibrahim Darus, Sarawak NCID chief ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah and Sarawak police contingent headquarters (IPK) administrative staff officer ACP James Jonathan.
