KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit 2024 provided a crucial platform for the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) to showcase its successful integration of the SDGs into socio-economic planning and development projects within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).
RECODA’s chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismun stressed the significance of aligning the SDGs with Sarawak’s development strategies after attending a parallel session at the summit.
“The SDGs not only focus on sustainable development but also highlight community involvement, ensuring that these sustainability programmes bring real, tangible benefits to their daily lives, ultimately contributing to their economic prosperity,” Ismawi said.
He explained how RECODA’s goals are in line with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which aims to transform the state into a high-income economy by 2030.
The focus, according to Ismawi, is on inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
“By aligning our efforts with the three pillars of PCDS 2030 and the 17 SDGs, along with other important frameworks such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), and the Equator Principles, RECODA is committed to driving Sarawak’s progress in a manner that ensures equitable growth for all communities,” he said.
On the final day of the summit, Ismawi reiterated that achieving the SDGs is a shared responsibility, expressing RECODA’s pride in collaborating with public and private stakeholders to ensure their projects deliver long-lasting benefits to the communities they serve.
“Moving forward, RECODA will continue to innovate and implement sustainable solutions that not only spur economic growth but also protect the environment and promote social inclusivity. This aligns with our unwavering commitment to the SDGs,” he added.
During the summit, RECODA’s exhibition booth displayed its strategies and achievements in promoting sustainable socio-economic development across Sarawak through its infrastructure projects and community programmes.
The Malaysia SDG Summit 2024 took place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Sept 17-18.
