KUCHING: The Mid-Autumn Festival came to life in the city with a vibrant display of creativity and cultural celebration, hosted by the Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance, and Music Association in collaboration with Plaza Merdeka Mall.

The festival, which ran from September 7 to 21, included a wide array of performances and competitions, with the Children’s Colouring Contest taking centre stage on September 14.

Chairman of the Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance, and Music Association, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok expressed his gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers, stating: “The Mid-Autumn Festival not only honours tradition but also nurtures young talents. We’re proud to have partnered with Plaza Merdeka Mall and KATSN to bring together people from all walks of life, fostering social interaction and celebrating diversity.”

The contest saw over 50 young participants, eager to express their artistic interpretations of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a celebration of family reunion and togetherness. The children showcased remarkable talent through their colourful depictions of traditional themes, capturing the essence of the festival.

In Category A of the Children’s Colouring Contest, the winner was Hayfa Bashirah Safit Affandi, while Aesyah Mohd Ariff took the first runner-up placing and Chang Zi Heng was named second runner-up. Consolation prizes in this category were awarded to Adora Tan Nian Tse, Bella Lai Yi Ning, and Sheneice Chai Xin Ni.

For Category B the top prize went to Hannie Ang, with Chin Kah Xin securing first runner-up and Celine Wong Hui Ci earning second runner-up. Consolation prizes were presented to Jarell Chong Yan Shen, Alice Tin Ning, and Emmy Liew En Yu.

In addition to the colouring contest, the festival featured lantern-making, singing, and Cheongsam competitions, as well as a special Gifted Art Exhibition organised in collaboration with the Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN).

The exhibition and events provided a platform for special needs children and young adults to showcase their talents, drawing attention to the importance of inclusivity and community support.
