KUCHING: The completed Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP) is ready to welcome students starting next year.

According to a TV Sarawak (TVS) report, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said ILP Serian was the third in Sarawak and the 33rd in Malaysia.

He said the institute was currently awaiting the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), which was expected to be finalised by October.

“This ILP will be able to accommodate around 600 students. We expect the intake or commencement of courses for the first semester to begin in January 2025,” he added.

He said this when speaking to reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here earlier today (Sept 19).

Sim described the establishment of ILP Serian as good news for Sarawakians  as it was a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution that would train highly skilled workers in Sarawak.

For the record, ILP Serian is the third in Sarawak after ILP Kota Samarahan and ILP Miri.

Sim said the courtesy visit aimed to extend an invitation to Abang Johari to attend the cheque presentation ceremony from the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) to the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS).

This collaboration between KESUMA and the Sarawak government aims to enhance education and skills training in Sarawak specifically, and Malaysia in general.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 5 at Juma’ani Pavilion and is expected to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
