SCaT Fair returns with over 1,175 job opportunities

KUCHING: The highly anticipated Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCaT Fair) is returning, featuring over 1,175 job vacancies.

Scheduled for Oct 5 and 6 in Kuching, and Nov  3 and 4 in Sibu, the two-day event is expected to attract more than 12,000 visitors and reach 50,000 online viewers..

Organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) in collaboration with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), the fair will feature over 50 exhibitors from various sectors, including companies, educational institutions, financial aid providers, technical schools, and government agencies.

MEITD Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that in addition to the exhibitors, the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) will conduct open job interviews for positions in 30 industries.

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), along with over 30 of its vendor companies, will also participate, offering additional career opportunities.

“Education is the backbone of community development. It helps students lead fulfilling lives and prepares them to be productive members of society,” said Sagah.

“Sarawak is dedicated to supporting its students, as evidenced by the government’s financial assistance for students, teachers, and trainees, alongside significant investments in school infrastructure.

“With digitisation and automation transforming the labour market, it is essential that education effectively prepares our youth for future job opportunities,” he said  during a a press conference held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here today (Sept 20).

Sagah said the SCaT Fair 2024 will serve as a ‘one-stop centre’ for students, youth, parents, and the community, providing comprehensive information on education, careers, and financial aid.

The fair will also focus on enhancing employability, improving marketability, and encouraging interest in STEM subjects among school children.

In addition to job opportunities, the fair will host several exciting events, including the STEM Playground, Drone & Robotic Explore (Drobotex) Challenge, SCaT Kamboh Stage, Skills Master, and a Cosplay Community Meet-Up.

Other highlights include a lucky draw, tour of Planetarium Sultan Iskandar (PSI) Dome, and kid’s fun zone.

A half-day career talk, organised in collaboration with Chemsain HRD Sdn Bhd, will focus on bridging the gap between academia and industry.

“Guests will learn how to apply personal branding and marketing techniques to stand out in the job market through this career talk.

“Undergraduates and job seekers are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to improve their soft skills while preparing for the job market,” Sagah added.

He encouraged Sarawakians to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the fair.

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who also chairs TEGAS, and MEITD Permanent Secretary Adana Jed.
