KOTA SAMARAHAN: A police officer, absent from duty since March this year, was arrested early yesterday morning (Sept 21) for impersonating a senior officer.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin, when contacted, confirmed that the arrest happened around 1.50am.

The incident occurred when a crime prevention patrol spotted a Perodua Bezza parked in front of a supermarket with two men acting suspicious inside.

During inspections, they found one of them wearing a police vest with a pistol holster on his waist.

“He introduced himself as a senior officer with the rank of Inspector from Bukit Aman Special Branch Unit, and claimed that he was conducting intelligence work in the area.

“However, when asked for his police authorisation card, the man said that he had left it at home and only provided his identification card, which led officers to discover his RF police number.

“Further questioning revealed that he admitted that he was actually a low-ranking officer and is on vacation for two weeks. Upon contacting the police station he was attached to, police learned that he had not reported for duty since March this year,” he said.

Jaimi added that both the officer and his companion were arrested and taken to the police station for further action.

Also seized from them were the Perodua Bezza, a set of keys, a police vest with an Inspector’s rank, and a black pistol holster.

He confirmed that both men tested positive for drugs and are being remanded until Sept 25 to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Sections 170 and 186 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant and obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties.
