KUCHING: All states should step up and reward their 21st Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) athletes who win medals for their teams.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Adam Adli Abd Halim, said this recognition is important for the efforts and achievements of these athletes in bringing honour to their states in the sporting arena.

“Rewards for the para athletes should be prioritised, especially as they face greater challenges than able-bodied athletes.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Adam Adli speaking to reporters.

“We must appreciate and honour their struggles and sacrifices,” he said after visiting the Sukma Media Centre at the Pandalela Rinong Aquatic Centre on Monday (Sept 23).

According to Adam, some parents may lack the confidence to promote their children with disabilities in athletic endeavours.

“I hope parents will play a role in encouraging their children with disabilities to engage in sports because encouragement begins at home.

“Nevertheless, participation in sports, whether in Para Sukma or other events, significantly aids in their development.

“As an example, we have produced many successful athletes on the international stage who came from the same ecosystem,” he said.

Adam reaffirmed that his ministry will strive to provide as many platforms as possible to support individuals with disabilities in achieving success in sports.

He also praised the impressive coverage of national events, which enable the entire country to stay updated through live broadcasts on TV Sarawak and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

“This ongoing coverage is deemed vital for the athletes competing in these events,” he said.
