SIBU: A total of ten families affected by the fire in Kampung Hilir whose children attend Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abang Ali received aid on yesterday (Sept 23).

According to SK Abang Ali PIBG chairman, Datuk Mohamad Yusnar Matalie, the aid was provided by the SK Abang Ali Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and the school cooperative to ease the burden of the families and pupils affected.

Mohamad Yusnar spoke to reporters.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims of the fire, particularly the children from SK Abang Ali.

“We are taking the initiative to offer an early contribution from the PIBG in the form of RM500 in cash (each family). Meanwhile, the school’s cooperative (Koperasi) is giving an additional RM200 to each child whose parents are members of the cooperative,” he said.

Additionally, he said the PIBG will assist 13 pupils from the 10 families by providing school uniforms, school shoes, school bags, and stationery.

Once they have had time to recover, they can return to school and continue their daily activities as usual, he added.

He also called on the wider community and concerned citizens of Sibu to help those affected by the tragedy that occurred on Sunday afternoon.

“Specifically, to the alumni of SK Abang Ali who wish to contribute, you may do so directly to the school, and we will channel the donations to those involved,” he said.

The fire has left 165 individuals from 17 houses in Kampung Hilir homeless.
