SERIAN: Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn has advised recipients of the Minor Rural Projects (MRP) 2024 cheques to deposit them promptly to avoid complications.

He stressed that the cheques are now valid for only two months, with administrative processes taking up to a month. As a result, recipients have just over a month to manage the cheques effectively.

“Ensure that you deposit the cheque straight into the bank, as there have been instances where recipients misplaced their cheques. I urge you to go to the bank right after this event,” he said during his speech at the MRP 2024 cheque presentation ceremony on Sunday (Sept 22).

The Tarat assemblyman also reminded recipients to prepare an annual expenditure statement for the funds to comply with government audit requirements. He pointed out that accurate financial reporting is crucial to prevent the misuse of government funds.

“Every year, you must submit an expenditure statement for the government’s audit division—not just for me. We want to prevent any misuse of funds, as it could result in action from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against me, the District Officer (DO), or the recipients,” he stressed.

A total of 66 recipients, including associations, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations from the Tarat area, received cheques totaling RM850,000.

Sagah also underscored the importance of managing the funds responsibly and urged all recipients to ensure that annual expenditure reports are prepared for record-keeping and future funding approvals.
