KUCHING: All strategic assets in Sarawak will be insured through Perinsuran (Brokar) Sdn Bhd to ensure comprehensive protection to safeguard the state’s security and economic stability.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed the state’s commitment to enhance the value of its resources and building substantial assets to support growth in the insurance industry.

He noted that insuring valuable assets is no simple task, as it requires assets of significant value to justify the coverage.

“The higher the value of the asset, the larger the insurance amount required. If the asset’s value is smaller, the insurance amount is also smaller.

“For example, industries such as hydrogen and ammonia need protection through insurance products. Bulk hydrogen services, for instance, require insurance to cover substantial asset values,” he said.

He said this when attending the Perinsuran (Brokar) Sdn Bhd 50th Golden Anniversary Gala Dinner at Hilton Hotel on Monday (Sept 23).

Elaborating further, Abang Johari lauded the company as a leading insurance broker in Malaysia, equipped with ‘skilled drivers’ to ensure comprehensive asset protection for their clients over the past 50 years.

He praised the experience and expertise of Perinsuran (Brokar) chief executive officer Siti Rafidah Adenan who has successfully navigated various challenges in the industry, reflecting on how the company has grown since 1974, when Malaysia’s economy was still small and had only one major asset — liquefied natural gas (LNG).

“The journey in the insurance industry is not as smooth as the Pan Borneo Highway. It requires highly skilled drivers to navigate bumpy roads, ensuring the safety of the passengers and the car’s upkeep.

“If the driver lacks skill, problems or even accidents could occur. In this case, Perinsuran (Brokar) has very skilled drivers,” he added.

At the same event, a symbolic donation from Perinsuran (Brokar) Sdn Bhd to the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) was presented, witnessed by the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Syukri.
