KUCHING: Sarawak’s dominance at the Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI 2024 continued today (Sept 24), with the lawn bowls event contributing two gold medals to the host’s haul.
The home pair of Ahmad Bashirun Ismail and Nischal Nischolas Bujang secured Sarawak’s first gold medal in the event by winning the Open Pairs B6 category.
Their victory came after a tense final, where they narrowly defeated their opponents.
“Last year, we lost, so on our home turf, we made a comeback and became champions,” Ahmad Bashirun said.
“This is my second Para SUKMA, and I’m thrilled to finally win a gold medal.”
Norhasfalinda Hamdan also claimed a gold medal for Sarawak, winning the Women’s Singles B3 category.
“I fought hard because, two years ago, I only got silver,” she said.
“This year, I wanted to prove that I’m among the best.”
In addition to the gold medals, Sarawak also won three silver medals and one bronze in other lawn bowls events.
