SERIAN: The Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) Carnival is one of the efforts to enhance English proficiency among students.

Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, said this programme is an important pillar in the ongoing efforts to raise the standard of English proficiency in Sarawak schools.

He emphasised the importance of English not only in education but also in the workforce.

“English is the main language in science, technology, and business, making it key to unlocking opportunities in various fields at the international level.

“The Sarawak government, through the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), is committed to ensuring that students are prepared in mastering the English language.

“This is evident through initiatives like the Sarawak Dual Language Programme (DLP) and HIP being implemented in schools,” he said.

He stated this during his speech at the programme’s official launch on Tuesday.

In addition, Sagah also announced the launch of the Sarawak Education Enhancement Programme (SEEP) on August 1, aimed at assisting students who are struggling in core subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and others.

“This programme provides extra tutoring for Form 3, 4, and 5 students, with the goal of improving SPM performance in Sarawak,” he added.

Sagah also emphasised that mastering English does not diminish the importance of Bahasa Malaysia as the national language.

“Instead, it showcases our cultural diversity and our ability to succeed globally without forgetting our cultural roots,” he said.
