KUCHING: The first Aerospace Faculty in Sarawak, set to be established at i-CATS University College, is currently in the final stages of preparation, including curriculum development and instructor arrangements.
This was clarified by the Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, who stated that the first semester of this programme is expected to be launched soon, offering bachelor’s degree programme.
“The management of i-CATS University College is preparing with the instructors and the subjects that will be offered in the field of aerospace.
“It is currently being organised… We hope it can be launched as soon as possible,” he said when met by the media after representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the 26th Convocation Ceremony of Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (Sept 25).
He further explained that graduates from this programme will become part of the skilled workforce in various new fields targeted by his ministry by 2030.
“The ministry has targeted to train at least 30,000 individuals with new skills each year, aiming to reach a total of 500,000 by 2030,” he stated.
The establishment of the Aerospace Faculty aligns with the Premier’s proposal following Sarawak’s introduction of the Spectrum Bill.
It is also supported by the selection of Sematan in Lundu as Malaysia’s first satellite launch site due to its location near the equator.
