KUCHING: At the Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI, held at Megalanes Batu Kawa, Sarawak’s tenpin bowling athletes achieved a remarkable success, securing two gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
Sarawak celebrated its first gold medal in the female singles TPB4 category as Nur Syazwani Marais delivered an impressive performance with a score of 1099.
In an interview with the media, Nur Syazwani, 31, expressed her gratitude for the victory, noting that she found the momentum to secure first place despite facing stiff competition from her challengers.
“My closest challengers were Selangor and Johor but I picked up and maintained my momentum.
She also dedicated her win to Sarawak, her teammates, and coach, especially to her family for their unwavering support throughout the competition.
“My family are my biggest supporters as they gave me a lot of encouragement,” she said.
Nur Syazwani will compete in the open doubles with Abang Yahya Abang Azhar, today (Sept 26).
This will be their second time competing together against other athletes.
In the open doubles TPB9 category (for athletes with physical disabilities), Marcos Chang and Wong Kee Soon claimed first place with a total score of 2473, adding another gold medal to Sarawak’s tally.
Meanwhile, Mohd Feroz Hamdan and Abang Yusdi Abang Annuar secured third place with a score of 2119, falling short of Selangor’s Nadia Syafika Abdul Rahman and Khairul Nizam Arip, who finished with 2187.
However, in the open doubles TPB2 category (for athletes with visual disabilities), D’carlus Maclin Daes and Roni Tugiman scored 1885, earning a bronze medal for Sarawak.
They finished behind gold medalists Ku Izham Ku Harun and Muhamad Suhaili Ab Hamid from Penang, who achieved a score of 1995.
Abang Yahya Abang Azhar scored 1203, finishing just 128 points behind first-place winner Muhammad Hadwan Hilman Mohd Nor Hisham from Pahang, while Muhammad Zul Adly Majeni secured third place with a score of 1143 in the male singles TPB4 category (for athletes with mental disabilities),
In the male singles TPB8 category (for athletes in wheelchairs), Alim Sohai currently holds third place with a score of 925, trailing first-place winner Ahmad Nazri Hamzah from Selangor by just 62 points.
