MUKAH: Mukah Polytechnic (PMU) was crowned overall champion in the Malaysian Polytechnic and Community College Sustainability Award (MPPCSustAward) 2024 at Mersing Polytechnic, Johor, recently.

According to a statement from PMU, this achievement is the result of the institution’s commitment to embedding sustainability practices on campus and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“In the Overall Polytechnic Award category, PMU secured first place, defeating several other leading polytechnics such as Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic and Banting Polytechnic Selangor.

“This award recognises PMU’s ongoing efforts to implement various green initiatives and ensure the campus serves as a model of environmental sustainability,” said the statement.

PMU also won several major categories under the Smartgreen Polytechnic and Community College (PolyCC) Awards.

Among them, PMU won first place in the Transportation category for successfully introducing a sustainable green transport system on campus.

This initiative also reduced the carbon footprint through the ‘Car Free Day’ programme held twice a month, and the efficient transportation mode became one of the main factors behind this success.
