BAU: Narcotics police arrested a 23-year-old man with a previous criminal record after he was found with 991.47 grams of drugs worth more than RM31,000 at a hut here on Wednesday (Sept 25).

According to Bau police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer, the suspect was picked up during an operation in a local village.

“During the raid, the team arrested the suspect and seized 24 medium-sized transparent plastic packets and 71 small plastic packets containing drugs, with a total weight of 991.47 grams and an estimated value of RM31,727.04.

“The suspect has a prior record under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said in a statement today.

Daram said the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“The authorities also confiscated a car worth RM16,000, another car valued at RM25,000, and a motorcycle worth RM5,000,” he added.

Daram said the suspect is being remanded for seven days until Oct 3, to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, he may face the mandatory death penalty or be sentenced to life imprisonment and up to 12 lashes of the cane.
