KUCHING: A husband was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today (Sept 27) for assaulting his wife, believing she was cheating on him.
Gilbert Richard, 23, pleaded guilty to two charges before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
He was accused of making criminal threats and intentionally causing injury to his 23-year-old wife.
The court sentenced the accused to six months in prison for the first charge and 12 months for the second charge, to be served concurrently.
The incident occurred in a rented room on Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim on Sept 24.
During a heated argument, Gilbert punched his wife and threatened to kill her.
The victim suffered bruising around her eye and had filed a police report.
The accused was arrested on Sept 25.
