KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi attended the 2024 National Book Awards Ceremony during the Borneo Arts Creative Awards (BACA) 2024 Gala Night.

Held at Pullman Hotel Kuching last night (Sept 28), the prestigious event was organised to recognise and appreciate the contributions of individuals in the book industry.

During the ceremony, Wan Junaidi presented the Borneo Literature Award, the Borneo Writer Award, and the Borneo Book Award to 30 prominent scholars from Borneo representing Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.

Among the award recipients were renowned Sarawak singer Datuk Sarbanun Marican, Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak chief executive officer Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir, and Datuk Jasni Matlani, a writer and short story author from Sabah.

The evening included a dinner banquet attended by approximately 200 academics, artists, and students from the fields of creative arts, languages, literature, media, and communication.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, National Book Development Foundation Managing Board chairman Tan Sri Prof Dr Abdul Latiff, and the BACA 2024 director Dr Zuraini Seroji.
