BETONG: People should report to the authorities or contact the Talian Kasih 15999 if they are aware of any instance of abuse or neglect of children around them.

Betong Member of Parliament Dr Richard Rapu said this is because every child has the right to be protected to live in peace.

“Regarding that, the community should know what to do if they realise there are children being abused or neglected.

“Don’t just know how to record videos for each other’s social media sites, but please report (misconduct) immediately to the police or contact the protection team at Talian Kasih (15999),” he said.

He said this while representing Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu at the closing of the Child Protection Advocacy Programme: Love of Children at St Augustine Primary School.

He said during this programme, a talk titled Children’s Rights and Safe Unsafe Touch was given by the Betong Division Social Welfare Office.

“In addition to that on the safety of children by the Betong District Police Headquarters (IPD) and on the effects of drug abuse by the Betong National Anti-Drug Agency,” he said.

Minor Rural Project (MRP) contributions were also made to the St Augustine Parent Teacher Association (PIBG), the SK Abang Abdul Kadir PIBG, the SJK (C) Chua Hua Betong PIBG and the SMK Datuk Patinggi Kedit Betong PIBG.
