KUCHING: The Batu Lintang firefighters rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) today (Tuesday) after a smoke was detected coming from the Bearing Air Handling Unit (AHU) on the 2nd floor of the hospital’s specialist clinic at its physiotherapy unit.
According to Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Department, it received an emergency call at 1:09 pm, prompting an immediate response.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the smoke detectors had already been triggered.
While there were no visible flames, firemen continued to investigate the source of the smoke, which was later identified as a charred AHU in the physiotherapy unit.
The damage to the unit caused the smoke to spread through the hospital’s air conditioning ducts, emitting a strong smell of smoke throughout the building.
Fortunately, the situation was under control, and no injuries have been reported.
Authorities are currently assessing the cause of the AHU malfunction.
