KUCHING: Food Aid Foundation and Hope Place Sarawak are embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to tackle poverty and hunger throughout Sarawak.

The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here, witnessed by Adrian Ng, General Manager of Pullman Kuching, and John Teo, Chairperson of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Sarawak Chapter.

This collaboration leverages the expertise and operational strengths of both organisations to deliver food aid and implement community empowerment programmes to the underprivileged.

“Our mission has always been to fight hunger and food insecurity,” said Food Aid Foundation founder Rick Chee.

“In collaboration with Hope Place, we can now bring our resources and expertise to Sarawak, ensuring that families here who are struggling to put food on the table receive the help they need. This collaboration is about community and making sure no one is left behind.”

Likewise Chong Hai Eng, President of Hope Place, said the organisation has long been a pillar of support for vulnerable groups in Kuching, and this collaboration with the Food Aid Foundation strengthens its ability to serve together.

“We can reach more families, distribute more food aids, build greater awareness and foster a sustainable food ecosystem in Sarawak.”

The MoU focuses on eradicating poverty and providing emergency food relief.

Key responsibilities include identifying beneficiaries, managing inventory and distribution logistics and organising local fundraising events to sustain the initiative.

Pullman Kuching, the host and event sponsor, has been instrumental in bringing the collaboration to life.

“It’s an honour for Pullman Kuching to be part of this significant initiative,” said its general manager Adrian Ng.

“This partnership is a game-changer for this region, and we’re proud to support it.”

As a representative of the hospitality industry, Teo meanwhile highlighted the potential involvement from the hotel industry:
“The hospitality sector deals with a large amount of food, and this initiative provides an excellent way for us to contribute any surplus in terms of food aid to good use.

“We encourage more hotels and food industry players to take part in this movement and make a positive impact on the community. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
