SARATOK: Around 120 participants took part in a 15km ride during the Saratok Fun Ride 2024, aimed at promoting cycling as a leisure activity and fostering a healthy lifestyle.
Saratok Cycling Club (SCC) president Suib Jenai stated that the event’s main goal was to encourage cycling as part of a healthy culture and strengthen unity within the community.
“We are answering the government’s call to adopt a healthier lifestyle while also promoting community unity,” Suib said during the event.
He added that the Saratok Fun Ride 2024 was organised with support from various parties.
“We received significant backing, especially from Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, through his service centre.
“Additionally, other parties, such as the Saratok Islamic Welfare Trust Board (Lakis), the Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD), the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), and the Saratok District Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (ATM), were involved. Thank you to all of them,” he said.
Meanwhile, Saratok District councilor Majid Amit Zainuddin, representing Mohamad, officiated the event. He noted that the programme is part of ongoing efforts to popularise cycling in Saratok.
“Recently, Saratok was selected by the Sarawak Sports Council (SSC) as a development centre for cycling in the state. Following this, an experienced coach has been sent to Saratok to help nurture the sport here.
“This is a positive development and a significant recognition for Saratok, which we greatly welcome,” Majid said.
The Saratok Fun Ride was further enlivened with an aerobics session and a lucky draw.
Also in attendance were Lakis secretary Pemanca Sahari Gani, Saratok District police chief DSP Mordani Tanin, Saratok BBP chief Putra Ila, along with several community and tribal leaders (KMKK).
