Seminar to address price stabilisation and cost of living

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will host a seminar on price stabilisation and the cost of living in Sarawak;

It will bring together industry experts and policymakers to address the challenges posed by fluctuating prices and their effects on consumers.

“This seminar is a direct follow-up to the Price Stabilisation Study in Sarawak, and aims to foster dialogue among various stakeholders on strategies to stabilise the market and safeguard consumer interests.

“It is organised in collaboration with the Majlis Tindakan Sara Hidup, a body dedicated to addressing the pressing issues surrounding the cost of living in the state,” it said in a press release on Wedesday (Oct 2).

This seminar is expected to provide valuable insights that will shape policies and strategies to help Sarawak navigate the economic challenges posed by price volatility.

Unimas encouraged representatives from various sectors to attend the seminar and contribute to discussions that could significantly impact the socio-economic development of the state.

Prominent speakers will take the stage to share their insights and solutions such as Division Head of the Macroeconomic Planning Division at EPU Sarawak, Ivy Lim Chen Chen, who will discuss Economic Planning and Development Strategies for Price Stabilisation and Cost of Living in Sarawak.

Other key speakers include Principal Assistant Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Section at M-FICORD, Maris Stella Michael, who will highlight the role of the fisheries sector in stabilising prices, and Marketing Manager at PPES Ternak Sdn. Bhd Abang Suhaili Abang Zamhari, who will address the challenges of reducing the price of fresh beef in the state.

The seminar will also include contributions from Senior Assistant Director of Customs Maszerull Bujang, who will provide insights on the department’s role in supporting Malaysia’s economy and price stability.

The event will be officiated by Professor Ir Dr. Siti Noor Linda Taib, representing the Vice-Chancellor of Unimas.
