KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 17 individuals of various foreign nationalities around the district on Tuesday (Oct 1).

The operation, which targeted convenience stores, eateries and residential areas, was held at 10 locations around Gita, Sekama, Batu Kawa and Sungai Maong.

Acting on public complaints and intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit examined a total of 39 individuals for their documentation and of these, 17 were taken into custody.

The foreign detainees, comprising nine men and eight women, were found to have overstayed, lacked valid travel documents and valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

All of them are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public is encouraged to repor the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
