MIRI: Marine police arrested a local man for allegedly transporting duty-not-paid beers worth over RM100,000 in a pick-up truck yesterday (Oct 2).

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest was made at 11.05 am during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Kontraban’ held in the city.

“Upon inspection, the team found 50 boxes of beers believed to have been smuggled.

“The contraband, valued at around RM101,549.59, along with the vehicle used for transportation, were seized as evidence,” he said in a statement.

Alexson added that a remand application for the suspect will be submitted in the Magistrate’s Court to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

Meanwhile, the public is advised to report any criminal activity to Miri police operations room at 085-433730 or the nearest police station.
