KUCHING: The Sessions Court here ordered two friends to be placed on good behaviour bond for two years after they were found guilty of possessing several sharp weapons in a public place without a valid reason in November last year.
Royce Akong, 43, from Matang, and Chung Chint Choy, 44, each pleaded guilty to a charge read before Afidah Abdul Rahman today (Oct 3).
According to the charge, they were jointly accused of possessing four machetes, an axe, and a bayonet knife in a public place without valid permission.
They committed the offence near a popular fast-food restaurant in Matang around 12.30am on Nov 9, 2023.
Both were charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Afidah ordered both accused to be bonded for good behaviour for two years with a surety of RM5,000 without deposit, along with a local guarantor.
According to the case facts, on the day of the incident, a team of police officers followed a suspicious black four-wheel-drive vehicle.
A chase ensued until the vehicle stopped near a fast-food restaurant building on Jalan Matang.
Upon inspection, two men were found inside the vehicle along with several sharp weapons stored in the back seat.
Further investigation revealed that both accused were found to be storing and possessing sharp weapons in a public place without permission.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim while the accused were represented by lawyer Osman Ibrahim.
