Kuching Jazz Festival set to draw around 2,000 jazz lovers

KUCHING: The Kuching Jazz Festival 2024 is set to welcome around 2,000 jazz lovers over the course of its two-day event this weekend.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain  said that the event happening on Friday (Oct 4) and Saturday (Oct 5) anticipate a good turnout this year, with visitors coming from within Sarawak, throughout Malaysia, and even internationally.

“Based on the feedback and excitement we’ve already received, we are expecting an attendance of around 2,000 people over the duration of the two days event.

“This year’s festival will not only bring music lovers together but also significantly contribute to Sarawak’s tourism industry, boosting local businesses, hotels, and restaurants,” he said.

He said this during a press conference in conjunction with Kuching Festival 2024 at Grand Margherita Hotel here.

He also said that the festival aimed to bring people together through the universal language of music, foster cultural exchange, and put Kuching on the map as a vibrant arts and cultural destination.

“Over the years, Kuching Jazz has celebrated the best of local and international jazz talent, providing a unique platform for artists from Sarawak, Malaysia, and beyond to connect, perform, and share their stories with an enthusiastic audience,”he said.

The event at the scenic Grand Margherita Kuching’s Waterfront will feature Indonesian band Payung Teduh, who said that this year is their second visit to Sarawak, with their first performance being a decade ago.

“We’re thrilled to be performing in Sarawak again and grateful for the chance to sing for an hour on the Kuching Jazz 2024 stage. One of the songs we’ll be performing is ‘Untuk Perempuan Yang Sedang Dalam Pelukan,'” they said.

Zee Avi, another featured artist at the festival, revealed she will be performing nine songs during her set.

“Some of the tracks I’ll be performing include ‘Siboh Kitak Nangis,’ ‘Mee Kolok Sigek,’ and a few rarities. I hope everything goes smoothly, and that the audience have a wonderful time,” she shared.

Other acts slated to light up the Kuching Jazz 2024 stage include Rizky Febian, making his first ever concert in Malaysia.

Additionally, performances from Mellow Motif (Thailand) and local talents such as Swaiv, Improvisor, Sang Timur, Suhu, Aruel Ariel & The Fasola, Fazz, and Atilia Haron are set to take the stage.
