LIMBANG: The proposal for the development of Limbang Hospital has been included in the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) under Rolling Plan 4 (RP4).
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni stated that the hospital’s development would take time, with plans for its continuation into the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) to secure the necessary funding.
“The funding requested under RMK13 is intended for the construction of the hospital as well as a type 3 clinic or polyclinic.
“This aligns with discussions under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which stipulates that each division must have a comprehensive clinic, specifically a polyclinic,” he explained.
He said this to reporters during his recent working visit to Limbang Hospital.
He added that after the preliminary work is completed, the number of beds required will be determined.
“We estimate around 200 or more beds, which would allow Limbang Hospital to function as a minor specialist hospital in the future,” he said.
Lukanisman also mentioned plans to construct a new block at Limbang Hospital, similar to the one at Miri Hospital, which will accommodate clinical wards, facilitating the expansion of specialist services in the future.
“This development will take place on the current site of Limbang Hospital, meaning it will be done in phases, and we already have a plan in place.
“Once the preliminary work is complete, we will submit it to the Ministry of Finance and Economy for approval to proceed with the upgrades.
“I expect the project to begin in RMK13, and once the preliminary work is completed, we will have an estimated cost and determine the number of beds that can be provided,” he explained.
