SIBU: Members of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Wing have been urged to remain united and focus on loyalty rather than chasing positions within the party.

PBB Deputy President Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, shared a personal story from 1982, when he was summoned by the late head of state Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud alongside Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang to receive the letter of appointment for the Betong candidacy.

However, upon receiving the letter, Uggah discovered that the name listed was not his, but Jabu’s.

“I accepted and respected our party leader’s decision. There must have been a reason for it. To me, positions don’t matter—what matters is unity within the party. We stood united in facing any challenge within the party, and that was my principle at the time,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the welcoming dinner for the PBB Youth Wing held at a local hotel last night (Oct 5).

Uggah said it was his destiny to eventually become an MP, as he was nominated in 1986—a result of the loyalty and respect he had shown towards the party’s leadership decisions.

“This is the spirit I want to see in PBB members across Sarawak. Our party leaders are always there to support every member.

“Sometimes we think the fruit is ripe, but it isn’t yet—so don’t be upset. This is my reminder to all of you,” he added.

He stressed that despite the many temptations out there, PBB has endured since 1973 due to its strength and unity.

“Our top leaders, from PBB and GPS, have been groomed through training in our women’s and youth wings. Now, we have the PBB Youth Wing as another platform to cultivate future leaders.

“You have a heavy responsibility to face the challenges ahead. PBB needs young leaders with fresh ideas, visions, and aspirations.

“PBB has survived since 1973 because of our leaders’ flexibility in policy. These leaders rose through education, introducing new ideas and strategies to ensure PBB remains relevant as time progresses,” he said.

Also present were PBB Vice-President Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, PBB Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Ibrahim Baki, PBB Elected EXCO Member Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Assistant Secretary-General Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, PBB Assistant treasurer Dr Ripin Lamat, PBB Youth Chief Miro Simuh, and Organising Chairman Reily Repai Maringai.
