KUCHING: The Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony, themed around traditional or ethnic attire, took place at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi here at 8am today (Oct 6).
The ceremony, which symbolised the spirit of unity and tolerance among the diverse communities of Sarawak, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“Significantly, despite our differences in culture, religion, and ethnicity, we are the children of Sarawak.
“We live in an atmosphere of harmony, peace, and mutual respect under the name of Ibu Pertiwi. This unity allows us to celebrate our rich cultural tapestry.
“To celebrate unity in diversity, which is our uniqueness and pride in this Land of the Hornbill, this edition will feature a special presentation that aligns with the theme: a lion dance, which is a proud cultural dance of the Chinese community,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday.
For the record, the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony serves as a symbol of respect for the emblem of the state’s sovereignty.
Additionally, the residents of Kuching City are encouraged to attend and participate in the monthly Ibu Pertiwi raising ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi to collectively ignite the spirit of patriotism among all.
