KUCHING: A total of 1,500 people participated in the Sarawak-level Fit Malaysia 2024 programme and ‘Walk for Fitness’ programme in conjunction with Kuching Car Free Morning.
Among the programmes held was Jalan Untuk Sihat (JUST) or Fitness Walk, which also attracted the participation of more than 600 people as well as over 900 participants who joined a 10-kilometre run.
This programme aimed to promote healthy lifestyle practices among local citizens, through various activities participated by the local community.
According to director of the Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department Lamat Nyalau, this programme was an important initiative in educating and encouraging Sarawakians to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“Through activities such as running, walking, and fitness programmes, the community can raise awareness of the importance of sports for physical and mental health,” he said.
He said this in conjunction with the Fit Malaysia 2024 programme at the Sarawak level and the ‘Walk for Fitness’ programme in conjunction with the Kuching Car Free Morning at Kuching Waterfront on Sunday.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the Department of Youth and Sports, consistently strives to promote sports culture among the people.
The Fit Malaysia programme in particular, is seen as an effective platform in providing education related to sports as well as the benefits of fitness to the community.
“Sports and leisure activities are the most effective medicine for health.
“With increasing participation, the organisation of such a programme is expected to foster a deeper awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle among Sarawakians, especially in the city of Kuching,” he stressed.
