MIRI: A 66-year-old man who had been reported missing for two days was found dead in the river near the village of Long Latei, Baram.
The victim, identified as Wan Duwing, was discovered by villagers at around noon on Sunday.
Wan Duwing had gone fishing alone in Sungai Melana on Friday, Oct 4, at 8 am.
His neighbor noticed his absence at 1 pm, sparking concerns. A search was initiated immediately along the river, but efforts to locate him on Friday proved fruitless.
Villagers continued the search into the night despite poor weather conditions and resumed on Saturday, Oct 5, until 2 pm, still without success.
The breakthrough came on Sunday when the villagers discovered his body about 1km downstream from where he was believed to have fallen.
His remains were retrieved from the river and transported back to his home via a Hilux truck.
Medical personnel arrived at the scene to confirm Wan Duwing’s death, after which the body was handed over to the police for further investigation.
