KUCHING: A total of 73 associations from the Sarikei parliamentary area received Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants amounting to RM285,000 recently.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said every grant recipient, consisting of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBGs), and cultural associations, should fully utilise the allocated funds.
“These grants should be used to carry out various activities that will have a positive impact on the local community.
“As is well known, I have been contributing school bags, shoes, and uniforms to students in my area since I became their representative.
“This effort not only helps to ease the burden on parents, but it is also an important initiative to encourage students to continue working hard to achieve excellence,” he said in his speech during the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant presentation ceremony at the Sarikei Representative Centre today.
The Repok assemblyman also said strong support from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can help empower education and development in Sarikei.
“Thank you for the support given to me in the last election. I will continue to work to fight for the people’s interests and provide the necessary facilities for the people of Meradong and Repok,” said Huang.
He also expressed his gratitude for the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who has ensured political and economic stability.
