MIRI: A total of 1.1 kilogrammes of suspected marijuana, valued at RM3,440, was seized following the arrest of three local individuals, including a woman.

The arrests took place last Saturday during a raid led by the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at a residence in Miri.

Confirming the operation, Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the raid occurred around 3:20 pm.

During the raid, the police confiscated two items: a package containing 1,100 grams of marijuana and a red tin container holding 0.4 grams of the same substance.

The suspects appeared before the Miri Court for a remand application on the next day, Sunday (October 6).

The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Individuals convicted under Section 39B may face the death penalty or, if not sentenced to death, could receive life imprisonment and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.

ACP Alexson urged the public to stay vigilant and report any drug-related activities to the nearest police station to help combat drug abuse within the community.
