SIBU: The two-day Borneo International Street Dance Festival 2024 concluded successfully at Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall in University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here on Sunday night (Oct 6).

Bukit Assek assembyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek was in attendance to hand over the prizes to the winners in various categories, with total cash prizes of RM35,000.

The festival organised by Saberkas Bukit Assek with support from local and regional arts organisations, features a series of competitions, including K-pop Cover, Open Style Battle, and Breaking categories.

Chieng, who is also the Saberkas Bukit Assek chairman, said the festival with “Blast Your Stage” programme, besides promoting local tourism and the state’s rich cultural heritage is also to create professional spaces where young people in Sibu can dream big, express themselves, and share their creativity internationally.

In the K-pop Cover category, Valerinx from Kuala Lumpur emerged the champion followed by Lunaire of Miri and Swan D of Sibu.

Four consolation winners were Genmai of Kuching, Marshmallow of Miri, I-Ola and Encephalon, both from Kuching.

In the open style category, Bear Teo partnered with Kim Superbism of Johor came top, and Rowel Ting Mei How (Sarawak) with Dywane (Johor) for the second place. There was no third place winner.

In the breaking category, Lego Sam Jee Lek from Kuala Lumpur was declared the champion. The first runner-up went to Tan Kian Seng. There was also no third place winner.
