MIRI: Swift action by a homeowner in Jalan Pointsetia, Lutong Baru, prevented a fire from spreading after a water heater caught fire early this morning.

Firefighters from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station, led by Henry Jugah, were alerted to the incident at 7.40 am and promptly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the fire was already extinguished by the homeowner, who used a 1kg dry chemical powder (DCP) fire extinguisher to control the blaze.

“The fire was caused by an electrical appliance, specifically a water heater,” said Henry.

After conducting an initial assessment based on the RECEO (Rescue, Exposures, Confinement, Extinguishment, Overhaul) concept, firefighters monitored the area to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

No structural damage was reported as the quick response contained the fire to the appliance.
