PAKAN: A total of 346 landowners from seven longhouses, involving a total of 144 doors, have signed 679 Letters of Commitment (LOC) to participate in an oil palm projects.
The seven longhouses are Rumah (RH) Jantan Brum (22 doors) involving 90 landowners and 219 LOC; RH Sara Melayu (31 doors) with 96 landowners and 223 LOC; RH Panggai Ujang (23 doors) concerning 70 landowners and 96 LOC; RH Kadam Tajak (23 doors) covering 67 landowners and 97 LOC; RH Bujang Tutong (16 doors) involving 19 landowners and 25 LOC; RH Unau Sampan (nine doors) comprising three landowners and 20 LOC, and RH Jimbai Megat (20 doors) which include one landowner and seven LOC.
This project was approved by the Department of Agriculture and the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land, and Regional Development Sarawak (MANRED) on September 20, 2021.
It is expected to begin this month, with the first phase consisting of 350 hectares.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) Nanga Tebok Oil Palm Plantation Project in Ulu Sungai Wak was officiated by Datuk Martin Ben, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development, representing the Minister cum Chairman of SALCRA, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, at the SALCRA Nanga Tebok Oil Palm Plantation Project yesterday (Oct 8).
One of SALCRA’s policies is that land development will only begin once the consent of the involved landowners has been obtained.
Additionally, potential landowners must give their consent by signing the LOC
Also present was the Advisor in the Premier’s Department (Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development), cum Pakan assemblyman, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.
