Sarawak govt approves RM550,000 for development projects in Bawang Assan

SIBU: The Sarawak government has approved five projects totalling RM550,000 in three areas of the Bawang Assan constituency under the Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development Team leader Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie said these projects include installation of road lighting, pontoons and car parks.

 The areas covered are Jalan Sungai Rassau, Jalan Sungai Sebedil, Kampung Bungan Besar.

 “We will not be able to cover all the areas, but we will try to cover as many areas as possible so that the people can benefit from it,” he said this when visiting Rh Thomas Palus at Sg Sebedil, Batang Igan, Matu, today (Oct 9).

 He was there with the officers from Matu District Office to survey on the car park project worth RM200,000.

 According to Lau, SUPP Bawang Assan Community Development team was established about two years ago to resolve the problem faced by the community Bawang Assan.

 “We worked hard to come up with a proposal to our party president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.  Through his support, he submitted the proposal to the Sarawak Premier, who then approved the project.

“I also thank political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Romeo Christopher Tegong, for his close co-operation with us on the ground and together we further enhance unity within our community,” he said.

Lau hoped that the approved projects would be implemented soon and thus bring convenience to the people.

Also present at the visit were acting secretary of Matu Daro District Council, Sabli Razak; and assistant administrative officer of Matu District Office, Noorkasmawati Kassim.
