KUCHING: The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohamad Sanusi attended a Tea Reception at the Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Sunday.

The tea reception was held in conjunction with the 78th birthday celebration of the Head of State.

Upon arrival at 10.30 am, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah were warmly welcomed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, along with other distinguished guests.

Also in attendance were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also the Minister-in-Charge of the Head of State’s 78th Birthday Celebration, and Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

A highlight of the event was Wan Junaidi and Fauziah presenting donations of cash and hampers to the needy in the state.

The beneficiaries included those from Taman Seri Puteri Kuching, Sekolah Tunas Bakti Kuching, Desa Bina Diri Kuching, Rumah Seri Kenangan Kuching, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Rokiah, as well as recipients of monthly assistance from the Department of Social Welfare.

The assistance consisted of cash contributions from the Sarawak government and hampers sponsored by PETROS and PETRONAS.

Earlier, the reception began with cultural performances, followed by the cutting of the pulut kuning (yellow glutinous rice), and guests were treated to musical performances by local artistes.

Meanwhile, this tea reception served as the concluding event of the official birthday celebration for the Head of State.

A four-day celebration, running from October 10 to 13, was held here to commemorate the Head of State’s official birthday celebration.

These included a thanksgiving prayer, a special sermon, an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony, the grand parade, the investiture ceremony for recipients of state honours, state banquet, and tea reception.
