KUCHING: Eligible heads of households (KIR) with additional family heads (KKT) will have the opportunity to purchase homes in the Sungai Bedaun settlement as part of the Urban Renewal Project, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He explained that the settlement includes the construction of 426 housing units to accommodate KKTs who have relocated to Darul Hana.

“The government recognises the importance of homeownership for KKT, who are families that previously lived with or depended on KIR in village homes.”To date, 209

units have been completed under Package I, with 115 allocated to KKT.

“The remaining 94 units are currently being screened to be offered for purchase to eligible KKTs,” he added.

Awang Tengah made these remarks during a ceremony at Wisma SABATI on Monday (Oct 14), where he presented compensation cheques, land titles, and house keys for Darul Hana to KIRs from Kampung Pulo Ulu.

He also noted that the Sarawak government is focusing on providing various social amenities in addition to housing.

“These include building mosques, suraus, schools, playgrounds, centrally-organized business premises, and ensuring a safer and healthier environment with modern public facilities,” he said.

Regarding the Darul Hana Development Project, a key initiative under the Urban Renewal Project, Awang Tengah highlighted that various facilities have been developed for the local community’s benefit, including Masjid Darul Hana and Surau Darul Hijrah, which support religious activities and programs for the residents.

Other completed and ongoing projects include a football field, the construction of the smart school SK Pulo Baru, an underpass project, the Malay Heritage Museum, a Darul Hana neighbourhood centre, and more.

“Such significant development requires the cooperation and sacrifice of all parties, particularly village residents and landowners.

“Without their support, a project of this scale would not have been possible,” he added.
